Abstract

This dissertation presents a methodology for fault detection in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems based on power loss analysis. A 100 kW PV array was modeled using MATLAB/Simulink to simulate various fault scenarios at the PV array, DC-DC converter, and grid interface levels. By comparing the system's voltage, current, and power outputs under normal and faulty conditions, characteristic fault signatures were identified, enabling accurate and timely diagnosis. The results aim to enhance the reliability and efficiency of large-scale PV installations, reduce unplanned outages, and support the development of resilient renewable energy infrastructures.
