Abstract

The textbook is the most used teaching material in the classroom, making its evaluation essential in determining its overall effectiveness, particularly the efficiency of its tasks in supporting learning objectives. Therefore, the present research aims at evaluating the effectiveness of tasks presented in the fifth-year primary school English textbook “My Book of English”. This study provides an evaluation of the tasks included in the textbook through a questionnaire and content analysis of the textbook applying a mixed method approach combining both qualitative and quantitative data to ensure a comprehensive evaluation. The findings of this research demonstrate that the current textbook supports pupils’ language, facilitates meaningful communication through real world activities and reinforces progressive learning. Additionally, this research contributes to curriculum development by emphasising the role of tasks design in improving language education. However, it identifies certain limitations including the absence previous studies available as references, as this textbook is recently published. Moreover, this research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of the fifth-year primary school English textbook in Laghouat, making it difficult to generalise findings to a broader educational context
