Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of using literature in the EFL/ESL curriculum particularly the short stories, since it provides an authentic model of language use.
This research was carried out to determine the case of language learning and its relation to the literature study, and how can literature plays a beneficial role in language learning process. Furthermore, this research tries to suggest indirectly to the instructors to include literature in the curriculum , in order to develop the learner‘s reading comprehension and writing skills also to check how far the hypotheses we have proposed are correct about the correlation of the two skills reading and writing, and how can reading effects writing . Moreover it reinforces the inclusion of the short story within the curriculum, due to its beneficial role, and its consideration as an effective literary genre to be taught in the EFL classes
