Abstract In this study are presented a Direct Torque Control (DTC) applied to a variable Reluctance Synchronous Machine (RSM). It comprises essentially : • Generalities on RSM, its modeling and its association with a variable frequency supply (a three phase full wave diodes rectifier, a low pass filter and a three phase voltage source inverter) ; • An application of the DTC to the SRM drive piloting; • A study of some alternatives to conventional DTC-controlled SRM using modified switching tables, DTC with 12 sectors, DTC applied to the SRM powered by a three levels source voltage inverter, in order to minimize the torque and flux ripples and control the switching frequency of the inverter
