Abstract
Teaching African literature through summaries of novels is a desired general goal in educational
and specific focus for EFL students. This research paper lies on the knowledge of the students or
readers in general about the heritage of African peoples. The study focuses on the ability of
students in learning African literature through summaries of novels; this benefits them to learn
several cultures and languages. This current dissertation is dividing into three chapters: the first
chapter contains the African heritage of the African peoples; it provides the reader a general
background about the African history. The second chapter deals with pieces of information,
about the aspects of African literature, and how we can learn the African literature through
summaries of novels, and how African writers introduced English language into their works. The
third chapter contains asurvey on the use of summaries of novels and steps of the study. The data
were collect through pre-text based on a questionnaire. This study took place during the second
semester of third year students at the Department of English – University of Laghouat of the
academic year 2017-2018. Students were asks to answer questions to know how important it is to
teach African literature through summaries of novels. The findings study show that teaching
African literature through summaries of novels made suitable tools for development of cultural
and scientific thought. The present study is doing with the help of the readers to recognize the
reality of the African peoples
