Abstract

The architectural heritage is part of the cultural heritage, as the latter is represented in the old buildings that bear in their originality, all the cities and buildings built by man since ancient times of architectural and cultural value. In our research, we deal with a study that enables us to protect the heritage built in the Laghouat region, which was ignored by the bodies responsible for preserving heritage, so it remained neglected, which led to the loss of the original buildings and their great cultural heritage values. Laghouat region is rich in built heritage, we have chosen the Aflou region, which has a built heritage, it is represented in the buildings during the colonial era, all located in the center of the city. Such as the old hotel called ‘Hernandez's house’, it is located in front of the square (the carpet aisle), which were the subject of this study. The hotel is an old building built in stones with architectural and historical value. As well as, the place is a place of activity resulting from the heritage represented in the sale of rugs of « Jebel Amor », which it self carries the heritage of the region. This study aims to protect this built heritage through the architectural intervention represented in rehabilitation to repair the deterioration resulting from neglect, the passage of time and human and natural factors. This intervention seeks to improve and modify the building from an architectural and technical point of view without affecting or compromising the heritage values in order to provide their function in the best conditions and comfort, restoring the old activity brings back to the city center of Aflou the atmosphere and the heritage and cultural scene to be an example of protecting the architectural heritage and preserving the architectural identity
