| dc.description.abstract | Introduction Hysteroscopy is an essential and necessary diagnostic and therapeutic tool in the management of intracavitary uterine pathologies. Objective To study the clinical value of office hysteroscopy in the diagnosis and management of intracavitary uterine pathologies at the Hakim Saadan Mother and Child Hospital (EHS) in Laghouat. Materials and Methods This is a prospective study involving a series of 109 diagnostic hysteroscopy cases performed between November 20, 2025, and April 30, 2026, in the Laghouat province. Data analysis was conducted using a database that included patient profiles, imaging, technical descriptions, biopsy procedures, and potential complications. Results • Demographics: The mean age was 44.3 years (range: 23–79 years). • Indications: The primary indication was bleeding (45.87%), followed by infertility work-ups (27.52%), ultrasound anomalies (13.76%), amenorrhea (3.76%), recurrent pregnancy loss (1.88%), pelvic pain (0.94%), and recurrent infections (0.94%). • Findings: Uterine cavity anomalies were detected in 81.66% of cases. The findings included: o Polyps: 41.28% o Synechiae (adhesions): 11.92% o Endometrial hypertrophy: 9.17% o Fibroids: 2.75% o Uterine septa: 2.75% o Suspicion of malignancy: 2.75% o Endometrial hyperplasia: 1.83% o Endometrial atrophy: 1.83% o Endometritis: 1.83% o Adenomyosis: 1.83% o Isthmocele: 1.83% o Trophoblastic retention: 0.91% o Cerebroid tissue: One case. • Safety and Procedures: The complication rate was 0.04%. Office hysteroscopy allowed for several procedures to be performed without anesthesia or premedication, including the removal of small polyps and endometrial biopsies. The results obtained were satisfactory and sustainable. Conclusion Office hysteroscopy is a safe and simple procedure characterized by low pain levels and a low failure and complication rate. It can be performed in an outpatient setting without anesthesia. Currently, it has become the gold standard diagnostic and therapeutic technique for intracavitary uterine lesions. | |
