Abstract
The present research examines, through a questionnaire and a translation test ; the way second year students of English at Ammar Thelidji university Laghouat, perceive translation as whole as field of knowledge, and as practical endeavour . The first and the second part is theoretical which includes an overview on translation and tried to answer the question of what is political discourse and what its relation to translation. , the second part which is practical one and in order to investigate this problem, a test and questionnaire are administered to a sample of second year students. It attempts to find out the problems and difficulties that second- year students of English at Ammar Thelidji university meet when translating from English into Arabic political expressions and terms in the political sphere , and the strategies they employ and resort to whenever they come across any difficulty The result obtained show that students level of translation is somewhat weak . through the questionnaire and the translated expressions, it is clearly that they face some problems ; of stylistic , lexical and cultural. The result showed that, the students solutions resort to see strategies like guessing the meaning from the context, using approximate synonym, or just leaving it empty.
