Abstract
This study aims to identify the dominant personality type among patients
with renal insufficiency and to know the most used coping strategy for
psychological stress in this segment, in addition to trying to reveal the nature of
the relationship between personality types (A, B, C, D) and the coping strategies
for psychological stress adopted by them. At the “Lachlah Mansour” hospital in
the department of blood and kidney dialysis “Boukhalfi Abdelkader” in gueltat
Sidi Saad in Laghouat, to achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive
correlative approach was relied on by the quantitative and qualitative method, and
a set of tools were applied, namely: Ned Herman's Styles Scale, Cuson's Coping
Strategies Scale (1996), the observation network, and the semi-guided clinical
interview were applied to a sample. From (29) patients of both sexes (19 males,
10 females). The results of the study concluded that:
- There is no statistically significant correlation between personality type (A, D)
and coping strategies for psychological stress among patients with renal
insufficiency.
- There is a statistically significant correlation between personality type (B, C)
and coping strategies for psychological stress among patients with renal
insufficiency.
- The dominant personality type in patients with renal insufficiency is personality
type (c).
- The most widely used coping strategy among patients with renal insufficiency
is the coping strategy centered on social support.
- There are no statistically significant differences in coping strategies for
psychological stress among patients with renal failure, according to the variable
of social status and gender.
In addition, the results of the qualitative analysis showed that the study sample
used other strategies as well, namely (resorting to religion, behavioral distancing,
and avoidance), and that the sample members had a kind of general acceptance of
their disease.
