Abstract

The main subject of this thesis is based on the idea that the survival of blacks in the American history is related to their acceptance to be invisible in society. The black protagonist of Ellison‟s masterpiece Invisible Man (1952) has suffered a lot from racism and humiliation. Whites have refused to see him because of his natural blackness. Hence, he has learned to embrace such invisibility imposed by whites and use it for his own survival. He has kept his head down to please the whites and has followed their orders in order to secretly escape the margin of society and reach its center which holds the source of power and decision.
