Abstract
The current study addressed the problem of “hard of hearing” in children who
use hearing aids and have Articulation disorders due to neglect and focus on sign
language. It proposed an auditory- verbal rehabilitation program and attempted to test
its efficacy in improving letter and word pronunciation in five female children with
moderate hearing impairment who use hearing aids. Their ages ranged from 9 to 10
years, and they were studying at the Hearing-Impaired School in Tamanrasset
(second, third, and fourth grades).
The study employed a single-subject experimental design: (A_B), where each
individual's performance was compared separately in the baseline phase before the
intervention (A) and in the treatment phase (B), where the program was implemented;
for one month with two sessions per day. In the measurements, the " Articulation
disorders test in hearing loss and normal children (A.D.T) " of Muhammad al-Nubi
was used.
The study employed three different methods to process and compare the data:
the visual comparison method, the statistical comparison method (Wilcoxon and paired
t-tests), and the effect size evaluation method. All of these methods confirmed that
there were differences between the pre- and post-measurements in favor of the postmeasurement, indicating an improvement in the children's ability to pronounce letters
and words after the program was implemented.
