Abstract
The current study aims to identify the sociocultural background of the university student and
its relationship to academic achievement, by answering the following questions:
Does the sociocultural background have a relationship with the academic achievement of the
university student?
Is there a relationship between the cultural capital of the family and academic achievement?
Is there a relationship between the social capital of the family and academic achievement?
In order to answer these questions, the descriptive approach was used using the questionnaire
tool, which was divided into the axes of the study and distributed to a sample of third-year
bachelor students at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Ammar Thelidji University in Laghouat
to know the nature of the relationship between the two variables of the study. After the field
study procedures, we draw the following results:
✓ The educational level of the parents affects the intellectual and linguistic formation of the
children, and that is what is available in the house in terms of books, magazines, audiovisual media, etc.
✓ *The high educational level of the parents positively affects the student's academic
achievement, and gives him a greater chance of success.
✓ *The cultural atmosphere in the house that is dominated by love and equality among its
members and the factor of advice, guidance, guidance and discussion makes children want
to love learning and appreciate the value of knowledge. A direct reason for the emergence
of problems in terms of mental and even physical health. This is all due to the lack of
family awareness and the normal atmosphere among the members of the same house.
