Abstract
The propagation of light in the optical fibre is influenced by many physical phenomena. Chromatic dispersion is the main physical phenomenon which damages optical propagation in broadband networks. In addition, the type of modulation of the optical source of the transmitter contributes to increase the impact of chromatic dispersion. The purpose of this dissertation is to see the effect of chromatic dispersion on the quality of transmission in order to increase the amount transmitted in optical networks. The simulation part of this dissertation uses the OptiSystem software which gives us the possibility to design chains comparable to those existing in reality, with visualization of performance using the quality factor and the binary error rate.
