Abstract

In this dissertation, a performance evaluation of different types of interleavers is compared in between each other, these components are ones of the most important elements in turbo codes, there are many different types of interleavers. The simulation results showed that the Quadratic Permutation Polynomial (QPP) gives promising results when used in a large interleaver sizes, however, it did not show great results in comparison with other interleavers like the Dithered Relative Prime (DRP) and the Dithered Golden Interleaver (DGI) in smaller interleaver lengths. Several factors, in addition to the kind of interleaver, influence the performance of the turbo code, including the generating polynomial, the number of decoding rounds, and the block size. Increasing these parameters improves speed, but increases simulation time.
