Abstract

Objective: The objective of our study is to determine the prevalence of appendicular tumors on surgical specimens and to describe the different anatomopathological types, as well as to estimate morbidity and mortality in affected subjects, in order to evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic PEC of appendicular tumors. Materials and methods: The study was descriptive retrospective covering a period of 12 months, which extends from March 01, 2021 to March 01, 2022, this study was carried out at the level of the EPH of Laghouat. Results: During the study period, 04 cases of appendicular tumors were collected out of a total of 209 appendectomies, a frequency of 1.9%. The average age was 57.5 years with extremes of 48 and 75 years, there were 02 women for 02 men. The clinical picture was dominated by abdominal pain localized to the IDF. Ultrasound and CT enabled to evoke the diagnosis of appendicular mucocele in 02 cases. A simple appendectomy was performed in 03 cases and a total colectomy in one case. The pathological report was in favor of low-grade appendicular mucinous neoplasia (LAMN) in 03 cases and low-grade adenomatous polyp associated with low-grade colonic adenocarcinoma on colonic polyposis in one case. The postoperative course had been simple for 02 cases, while morbidity was a type of delay in restoring transit of 04 days and malignant hypertension was noted in one case and infection by COVID 19 on D5 post-operatively in another case, without any sign of recurrence over a oneyear follow-up. Conclusion: appendicular tumors are rare with non-specific symptomatology, and incidental discovery by anatomopathologic analysis of an operating specimen. The PEC remains dominated by a simple appendectomy.
