Incidence des fractures de l’extrémité distale du radius chez les personnes âgées >65ans à l’EPH de Laghouat durant la période 2019-2021

Abstract

Title: of distal Radius Fractures in the Elderly, about a retrospective study of 50 cases. Fractures of the lower end of the radius are frequent fractures that can affect the functional prognosis of the upper limb. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical, radiological and evolutionary outcomes of distal radial fractures in the elderly and to comparethem with the results reported in the literature. It is a two-year retrospective study, carried out in the hospital of Laghouat, on 50 patients with distal radius fractures.An incidence of 37 cases per year was found. The average age was 77.5 years with a female predominance (64%). These fractures most frequently occur as a result of fall on the outstretched hand (FOOSH) injuries (64%). The symptomatology was made of traumatized wrist pain with total functional impotence of the upper limb. By adopting the KAPANDJI classification, type 2 comminuted fractures were predominant (54%). Our 50 patients were treated surgically or by conservative treatment. 15 cases of secondary displacement were found, 12 cases of algodystrophy, infection around the screws in one patient and a carpal tunnel syndrome in only one case.
